Valentina is a drummer,composer and percussionist born in Bari and living in London since 2000. She has a multi-genre approach to music due to her passionate listening of different kinds of music and to her experimentations with new materials and sounds. Her inspiration comes from drummers like Ikue Mori (DNA), Georgia Hubley (Yo La Tengo), Jaki Liebezeit (Can), Milford Graves, Elvin Jones, Tony Buck, Charles Hayward, Billy Higgins, Han Bennink, Art Blakey, Yoshino etc etc... Her principal project was as one half of the duo Tomaga with bassist/multi-instrumentalist Tom Relleen ( who played with her in the group The Oscillation)She is also a member of the critically acclaimed experimental pop quintet Vanishing Twin and the supergroup UUUU, along with Graham Lewis  (Wire) and Tim Lewis (Coil). In 2017, she played drums as part of surviving Can member Irmin Schimidt's The Can Project, based around Schmidt's orchestral reimagining of classic Can songs and themes with an ensemble that also included Thurston Moore and Steven Shelley of Sonic Youth, Deb Googe of My Bloody Valentine, and original Can singer Malcolm Mooney. She and percussionist and sculptor Joăo Pais Filipe released their first album as CZN (Copper, Zinc and Nickel) The Golden Path in 2018, and a collaborative release with Swiss percussionist and composer Julian SartoriusSulla Pelle, followed in 2019. Other groups of 2020 are Frequency Disasters with Steve Beresford and Pierpaolo Martino (impro jazz) Holy Tongue with Allen Wooton ( electronics and percussions) plus an album with Marlene Ribeiro alias Negra Branca(Gnod). She also collaborates With London Improvisers Orchestra and Raime. In 2021 a new cassette with Avvitagalli with two former members of Bz Bz Ueu
Valentina said:"Music videos certainly played an important role for me as a teenager. Drums always caught my attention for some reason, probably because I am a small and loud human being." "There is never too many drums or percussive objects around in my place,I favour unconventional materials and set-ups. I love to change what I play all the time" "I love working in the studio.I usually have a lot of ideas on the spot and after laying down the basic track, I record layers and layers of percussive overdubs, experimenting with signatures and sounds." interview by Anita Awbi
